Nigerian singer Davido’s album, 5ive, has won Album of the Year at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards, AFRIMMA, held in Dallas, Texas.

The awards were held in a festival format on September 12 at Annette Strauss Square, at the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

Davido’s 5ive emerged ahead of a strong field that included Burna Boy’s No Sign of Weakness, Asake’s M$NEY, Omah Lay’s Clarity of Mind, Black Sherif’s Top of The Morning Era and South African singer Tyla’s A-Pop.

The award adds to Davido’s recognition within Africa’s contemporary music scene.

However, Nigeria’s dominance across several categories was challenged by other African artistes, with Congolese star Fally Ipupa winning the Crossing Boundaries with Music award.

The award recognises artistes who have helped take African music to audiences around the world. Ipupa beat Nigerian nominees Burna Boy, Rema, Davido, Wizkid, Flavour and Toby Nwigwe.

BNXN and producer Sarz won Song of the Year for Back Outside, defeating Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Diamond Platnumz’s Joy featuring Juma Jux and Black Sherif’s So It Goes.

Diamond Platnumz and Juma Jux, however, secured Best Collaboration for Joy. They beat Davido and Omah Lay’s With You, Patoranking and Ruger’s Shake That, and Fally Ipupa’s Jam featuring Wizkid.

Nigeria’s Director Pink won Best Video Director after beating fellow Nigerian TG Omori and international nominees including Hanscana of Tanzania and Elias Belkader of Algeria.

The 2026 ceremony was staged as a festival under the theme “A Day in Africa”, with music, food, culture and tourism forming part of the event.

Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort was the sponsor of this year’s edition.

Founded in 2014, AFRIMMA is an annual awards platform celebrating excellence and cultural impact across the African music industry.
