The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum has resolved that its members will not support or endorse candidates outside the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governors also pledged to align their campaign activities with President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and support APC candidates at all levels.
The position was reached at a meeting of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) held at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja on Monday night.
Chairman of the forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, announced the resolution after the closed-door meeting.
According to Uzodimma, the governors would not participate in any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election bid, weakening the APC or adversely affecting the party’s candidates.
He said the forum would also not support any candidate who was not sponsored by the APC.
“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels.
“In other words, the forum has no intention to support any candidate at any level that is not an APC candidate because our candidates who are contesting the election are being sponsored by our party.
“The governors’ campaign commitment is exclusively to all APC candidates. All levels of the party campaign architecture will align with the expectations of Mr President and the strategic objectives of the party,” Uzodimma said.
The governors said no political arrangement capable of creating confusion, divided loyalty or competing interests within the party would be entertained.
The resolution comes amid political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, including the Rainbow Coalition associated with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wike remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but has said the coalition is aimed at securing Tinubu’s re-election.
Uzodimma had recently been accused by Wike of sponsoring political attacks against him.
