The Benue State Government has said it is aware of the hardship that the interruption of electricity supply has caused our people.

"Families, traders, artisans, students, hospitals and small businesses are all affected, and we feel your pain," the Commissioner, Information and Orientation, Hon. Chief Solomon Iorpev, said in a statement on Saturday.

According to Iorpev, Governor Hyacinth Alia has directed that the matter be resolved without delay. He noted that the government is also engaging the Jos Electricity Distribution Plc, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to restore normal supply as quickly as possible.

"On the events that led to the disconnection, the Government has stated its position clearly and maintains that the allegations made against it are unfounded. At the same time, we condemn violence against any person or institution in Benue State. Anyone who unlawfully harms or intimidates workers, or damages property, will face the full weight of the law. Security agencies have ben directed to launch full, thorough and impartial investigation into the matter so that the facts can be established, while negotiations continue.

"We urge JED and the electricity workers' union to act in the interest of the millions of innocent Benue citizens who are suffering. Government will give the assurances needed for staff to work safely, and we ask that supply be restored while any disagreements are resolved through dialogue.

"To our people, we ask for calm and patience. Please do not take the law into your own hands, and avoid any act that could disrupt public peace or delay restoration. Protect electricity installations and report suspicious activity to the nearest security agency.

"We will keep you informed as the situation develops. Benue State remains committed to the welfare, safety and dignity of all its people," the commissioner said.
