A planning coordinator of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia, Emeka Anaba, says President Bola Tinubu has done a lot for the South-East through development initiatives and ongoing reforms.

Anaba stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Kaduna, where he attended the APC presidential campaign flag-off.

He said he travelled from Abia with other supporters to demonstrate their support for Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We are all here because of the importance of the occasion, to give our maximum support to Mr President based on the Renewed Hope Agenda, so that he will continue the good work he has started,” he said.

Anaba said the administration needed to sustain its reform programmes so Nigerians can assess their impact ahead of the 2027 election.

Addressing concerns about the perceived marginalisation of the South-East, he said establishing the South-East Development Commission was one of the administration’s notable interventions in the region.

“Mr President, in his magnanimity, was able to inaugurate the South-East Development Commission, which is the first time in the history of democracy,” he said.

He said the commission was working to facilitate development projects across the South-East.

Anaba also cited federal appointments involving people from the region and ongoing road projects, including the Port Harcourt-Aba and Enugu-Port Harcourt corridors, as evidence of the administration’s efforts.

“Work is ongoing. You can’t finish them in a day,” he said, referring to the road projects.

He also identified local government autonomy and tax reforms as measures that could improve governance and strengthen revenue generation.

According to him, effective implementation of local government autonomy will bring development closer to communities at the grassroots.

On tax reforms, Anaba said reviewing the country’s tax laws could improve revenue generation and increase the funds available for distribution among the three tiers of government.

He also acknowledged concerns over the removal of fuel subsidy, noting that Nigerians were still assessing its impact on their livelihoods.

He said government intervention programmes were intended to provide relief and cushion the effects of the policy.

“Mr President has gone with very bold policies, in terms of where we were before and where we want to be in terms of those reforms,” Anaba said.

He also cited interventions in education funding and poverty alleviation as part of the administration’s efforts.

Anaba described the reforms as a work in progress, urging Nigerians to assess the administration’s performance objectively.

“I think it’s something that everybody should look at objectively,” he said.
