Gusau International Airport has welcomed its first passenger flight as XeJet commenced a twice-weekly direct service between Abuja and the Zamfara State capital.

The inaugural flight, operated with an Embraer ERJ-145MP aircraft, departed the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 2pm on Monday and arrived safely at Gusau International Airport.

The new route is expected to improve air connectivity to Zamfara and support movement for businesses, government officials, families and other travellers between the state and Abuja.

Speaking ahead of the inaugural flight, the General Manager of XeJet Express, Hamzat Bukar, said the service would support tourism, trade and cultural exchange between Zamfara and other parts of Nigeria.

“This service will make travel more accessible and convenient for business travellers, government officials and families alike,” Bukar said.

He said the airline was committed to supporting the growth of the region while providing safe and reliable services to passengers.

Bukar added that the route was part of XeJet’s expansion of its network across Africa.

Receiving the inaugural flight, the Managing Director of Gusau International Airport, Kabir Yahaya Gusau, expressed satisfaction with the successful arrival of the aircraft.

“Today marks the first time Gusau International Airport has welcomed passengers, and I am delighted to say everything went smoothly,” he said.

He thanked XeJet for partnering with the airport and providing residents of Zamfara with an additional travel option.

The Abuja-Gusau service will operate twice weekly, strengthening direct air links between the Federal Capital Territory and Zamfara State.
