FirstBank Plc has commissioned a one-stop digital experience centre at Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, targeting no fewer than 40,000 customers within the university community.

Mr Olusegun Alebiosu, Chief Executive Officer of the bank, said this at the commissioning of the centre in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Tuesday.

Alebiosu said the facility was designed to onboard more customers onto the bank’s digital platforms and enable members of the university community to conduct banking transactions seamlessly, 24 hours a day.

He said the centre provided services traditionally available in banking halls, including cash withdrawals, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card replacement, account balance enquiries, bank statement requests, email updates, phone number changes and funds transfers.

“What we have here represents everything you want to do in the banking hall.

“So, whether you need cash from an ATM, a replacement for your lost ATM card, or want to check your account balance or bank statement, everything is available here.

“You can also update your email, change your phone number or make transfers,” he said.

On cybersecurity, Alebiosu said the bank had incorporated security systems, including facial and fingerprint recognition, to protect customers’ transactions and personal information.

He explained that customers would be required to use fingerprint verification for sensitive transactions such as changing passwords, phone numbers and email addresses.
The chief executive said the initiative was also aimed at attracting more young people, particularly members of Generation Z, to digital banking.

“I want ‌‌‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‍‌to get the Generation Zs, the young ones, on the platform because, in 20 years’ time, to be honest, there won’t be so many branches.

“These young ones grew up using phones to do everything they want to do,” he said.

Alebiosu said the bank had replicated the digital experience in several of its branches and planned to extend the innovation to more university campuses.

The Vice-Chancellor of Yakubu Gowon University, Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi, described the facility as a one-stop centre for banking transactions.

Fawehinmi said the initiative would give students and staff access to international-standard banking services within the university.

He added that the facility would also add value to students’ lives and support their learning experience.

“So, this sort of facility that has been brought to our doorstep, I think it will add a lot of value to the lives of students on campus,” he said.

On security, the vice-chancellor said the bank and the university had put mechanisms in place to ensure round-the-clock surveillance and protection of the facility.
