First Bank of Nigeria Ltd. (FirstBank) has integrated Google Pay into its payment services, enabling eligible cardholders to make contactless payments using compatible devices at supported payment terminals worldwide.
The bank announced the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the integration would expand digital payment options for its customers.
The development follows similar moves by other Nigerian financial institutions, which announced Google Pay access for eligible Visa and Mastercard users.
Google’s official support page for Nigeria also lists FirstBank as supporting Google Wallet payments with Mastercard debit cards, providing additional evidence of compatibility for eligible cardholders.
According to FirstBank, customers can add eligible cards to Google Pay and make payments at supported terminals, with security features designed to protect transactions.
Mr Abednego Ugwueke, Group Head, e-Business and Retail Products at FirstBank, said the integration was part of the bank’s efforts to improve digital banking services.
Ugwueke said the development would provide eligible cardholders with a convenient payment option for transactions wherever Google Pay was accepted.
He added that the bank remained committed to providing secure and innovative payment solutions that met customers’ changing needs.
The integration complements the bank’s existing digital banking channels, including LIT App, FirstMobile, FirstOnline and FirstDirect, as well as its payment card services.
