The Ogun State Government has released N5.83 billion to settle gratuity and additional pension benefits for retirees, bringing its total pension-related commitment since May 2019 to N157.9 billion.

The latest release, approved at the September 24, 2026 meeting of the Joint Accounts Allocation Committee, is aimed at addressing outstanding retirement obligations and improving the welfare of pensioners in the state.

The Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka, said N4.91 billion of the latest allocation would be paid as gratuity to Local Government pensioners who retired in 2022 and State Universal Basic Education Board retirees who retired in 2021.

The remaining N918.6 million will be paid as Additional Pension Benefits to eligible retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Saka said the intervention reflected Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to progressively settling outstanding retirement obligations.

He disclosed that the administration had also released N4.12 billion in Additional Pension Benefits to CPS retirees since the beginning of 2026.

Giving a breakdown of the N157.9 billion commitment, Saka said N29.12 billion had been paid as gratuity to 7,390 beneficiaries, while N105.39 billion had been spent on pension payments to 16,420 beneficiaries.

The state also committed N7.78 billion to CPS deductions for 29,883 beneficiaries between July 2025 and August 2026.

Other payments included N3.33 billion for Accrued Pension Rights to 2,567 beneficiaries, N5.04 billion for arrears of CPS deductions and N1.35 billion in returns on investment.

Saka said N584.85 million had also been spent on death benefits and other payments for 160 beneficiaries, while N1.32 billion was provided as palliatives.

Additional Pension Benefits paid to 709 beneficiaries amounted to about N4 billion during the period under review.

He clarified that the N45.5 billion figure for gratuity referred specifically to payments to Local Government and SUBEB retirees since 2019, while N157.9 billion covered all pension-related categories.

Saka said the sustained funding demonstrated the government’s commitment to the welfare of retirees who served the state.

He assured pensioners that the government would continue to meet its obligations and use available resources to address outstanding retirement benefits.
