At least 60 people have died and 200 more were injured by stampeding crowds during New Year’s fireworks in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, rescuers said Tuesday.

"There are around 60 dead and about 200 injured, this is a provisional estimate," Lt. Col. Issa Sako told local media.

Another rescue official said that 61 had died and 48 were injured, AFP reported.

Several children were reportedly among the victims of the incident.
