Swiss Technology company Logitech has urged Nigeria to strengthen its local technology capacity, saying the country must develop its own expertise, systems, and infrastructure.
The West Africa Cluster Head at Logitech, Mr Kayowa Ogunrinde, made the call after receiving the Visionary Leader in Technology and Business Award at the seventh edition of the CIO and C-Suite Awards Africa 2026 in Lagos.
Ogunrinde said that Nigeria needed to build local capabilities in data management, technology and infrastructure while remaining connected to the global economy.
“As a country, though we are part of a global village, we also have our identity; in data, people, systems and infrastructure, we must have our own stock.
‘’Nigeria can develop stronger local technology capabilities,” he said.
According to him, government, businesses, and industry institutions are increasingly recognising the importance of local expertise and infrastructure.
Ogunrinde also identified foreign exchange volatility and inconsistent government policies as major challenges facing businesses in Nigeria.
He, however, said that businesses could turn such challenges into opportunities by developing innovative solutions.
“Every problem you solve provides an economic advantage for your brand,” he said.
Reflecting on his career, Ogunrinde said his experience with global technology brands, including Canon and Logitech, had focused on market development, building local capabilities and achieving sustainable business growth.
He said Logitech had strengthened its presence in Nigeria’s retail, commercial and enterprise markets, with products spanning computer peripherals, audio devices, webcams and gaming accessories.
According to him, the company’s local operations, supported by Nigerian employees, distributors, resellers and strategic partnerships, have helped expand its market presence since it commenced local operations in January 2022.
Ogunrinde attributed the award to his team's collective efforts, stressing that business success depended on collaboration.
“Whatever happens is not just me; it is the team. They are seeing the effort of the team, the results we are pulling in, and the mindshare we are having in Nigeria,” he said.
He also welcomed Logitech’s commencement of manufacturing operations in India, expressing hope that Nigeria would eventually develop the industrial capacity and enabling environment to attract similar investments.
Logitech is a Swiss technology company that designs and markets products for computing, communication, collaboration and gaming
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other awards at the event include the Distinguished Digital Trust Leader award, AI and Data Category, Clean Tech and Energy category, Health Tech, Excellence in Revenue Innovation and Digital Transformation, won by the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, among others.
