Nigerians selected for the Federal Government's N50,000 emergency relief programme can now verify their eligibility and receive the payment through MoMo Payment Service Bank without an internet connection.

The USSD option allows beneficiaries to check their status, accept the grant and receive the money directly into their mobile wallets.

The National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, targets poor and vulnerable households struggling with rising living costs.

MoMo PSB is among five payment providers approved by the Federal Government to facilitate the disbursement.

According to the government's NERSI portal, customers can access the support by dialling 6710# from their registered mobile numbers and following the instructions.

How to check eligibility and receive FG's N50,000 through MoMo

Customers can follow these six steps:

  1. Dial the USSD code: Open your phone dialler and dial 6710# using the mobile number linked to your MoMo account.

  2. Check eligibility: Select the option to verify your eligibility for the Federal Government's NERSI intervention.

  3. Follow the instructions: If you have been selected, follow the prompts displayed on your phone.

  4. Accept the support: Confirm your consent to receive the N50,000 grant.

  5. Receive your payment: After completing the process, your mobile wallet will be activated and the money credited.

  6. Confirm the transaction: Check for an SMS notification confirming that the payment has been made.

The Federal Government said beneficiaries are selected using verified national identity records and the National Social Register, which identifies poor and vulnerable households across the country's six geopolitical zones.

However, owning a MoMo PSB account does not automatically qualify a customer for the intervention, as beneficiary selection remains the responsibility of the government.

There is also no public application process through which individuals can independently register for the grant.

Payments are being made in phases, meaning some selected beneficiaries may receive notifications later than others.

The government has warned Nigerians against fraudsters demanding money to facilitate access to the support.

Beneficiaries are not required to pay registration, processing or activation fees. The government also warned that no legitimate representative would request their personal identification numbers, one-time passwords or bank verification numbers to release the funds.

For enquiries and complaints, beneficiaries can contact the NERSI helpdesk on 0700-022-2222.
