Moniepoint has introduced a USSD channel to enable customers to check their eligibility for the Federal Government's N50,000 emergency relief programme without internet access.

The financial institution said customers could verify their status by dialling \557\327# from the phone number linked to their Moniepoint accounts.

The service provides access to the National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), which is designed to provide financial assistance to poor and vulnerable households facing economic hardship.

Moniepoint said customers identified as beneficiaries would receive instructions on how to accept the support, with the N50,000 credited directly to their accounts at no additional cost.

The intervention, coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, is being implemented through selected financial institutions and payment service providers, including Moniepoint.

The bank explained that beneficiaries were selected through government-approved verification processes involving national identity records and the National Social Register.

It added that the programme was being implemented in phases, meaning beneficiaries might not receive notifications at the same time.

Moniepoint Microfinance Bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Babatunde Olofin, said the institution was committed to making the intervention accessible to qualified customers.

He said the bank would deploy its technology and financial infrastructure to ensure a secure and seamless process.

To check their eligibility, customers should dial \557\327# using their registered phone numbers, select the option for the NERSI intervention and follow the instructions displayed on their screens.

Those confirmed as beneficiaries will be guided through the process of accepting the payment.

However, the bank stressed that having a Moniepoint account did not automatically qualify a customer for the support, as the Federal Government retained responsibility for selecting beneficiaries.

It also clarified that there was no provision for customers to independently register or pay to be included in the beneficiary list.

The government has warned Nigerians against fraudsters demanding money or sensitive banking information in exchange for access to the intervention.

Beneficiaries are not required to pay registration, processing or activation fees. Customers were also advised never to disclose their personal identification numbers or one-time passwords to anyone.

Who qualifies for the FG's ₦50,000 relief?

The Federal Government said beneficiaries are selected from verified national identity records and the National Social Register, which contains information on poor and vulnerable households.

Having a Moniepoint account does not automatically qualify a customer for the payment. Selection is subject to government verification, and customers cannot apply or pay to be added to the beneficiary list.

The government has also warned Nigerians against fraudsters who demand money or personal banking details to facilitate access to the support.

The NERSI intervention is free, and beneficiaries are not required to pay registration, processing or activation fees. Customers should never disclose their PINs or one-time passwords (OTPs) to anyone claiming to help them access the funds.
