AC Milan and Juventus returned to winning ways in Serie A on Sunday, with both clubs securing comfortable home victories to end their recent poor runs.
Milan beat Lecce 3-0 at San Siro to move up to fifth, two points behind the early leaders Roma, Inter Milan and Lazio.
Christian Pulisic opened the scoring in the 14th minute on his first start of the season, producing a fine finish after controlling a long pass with his first touch.
Adrien Rabiot doubled Milan’s lead after the break before substitute Diego Moreira completed the scoring with his third goal in two league appearances.
The victory ended Milan’s three-match winless run in all competitions and eased the pressure on manager Ruben Amorim.
“We still have a lot to do, but we are playing better and improving. The most important thing, though, is that we are learning,” Amorim told DAZN.
“In the last few games, we had some trouble because our positional structure was too rigid, whereas today the players had a bit more freedom and played better.”
In Turin, Juventus defeated Atalanta 2-0 to end a two-match winless league run.
Francisco Conceicao put Juventus ahead in the 28th minute with a low finish for his first goal of the season.
Both sides created chances after the interval, with the goalkeepers kept busy and Juventus striker Randal Kolo Muani making a goal-line clearance.
Gleison Bremer secured the points with 13 minutes remaining when he headed home from a corner.
The victory lifted Juventus to seventh and handed Atalanta a third consecutive defeat under former Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri, who took charge of the club in the summer.
Atalanta sit 11th in the table.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina held Napoli to a 1-1 draw to extend their unbeaten run since Paolo Vanoli returned as manager.
Napoli took the lead through Billy Gilmour, who finished with a cushioned volley after Fiorentina had twice hit the woodwork early in the match.
Fiorentina levelled in the second half when Alex Jimenez’s effort took a deflection on its way into the net.
The result kept Fiorentina two points above the relegation zone.
Napoli manager Massimiliano Allegri admitted his side needed to be more clinical.
“If we are not angry today, after failing to win against a good team like Fiorentina, it certainly means we need to improve,” Allegri told DAZN.
“It is not enough to keep possession if you do not take your chances.”
Elsewhere, newly promoted Frosinone stunned Como 2-0 to end the visitors’ four-match winning run in all competitions.
Giacomo Calo and Giorgi Kvernadze scored in the first half, while goalkeeper Lorenzo Palmisani produced a series of saves to help Frosinone secure their first victory over Como.
The result lifted Frosinone to sixth, while Como missed the chance to move level with the early leaders.
“It was a Frosinone masterpiece today,” Como manager Cesc Fabregas said.
Parma also claimed their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Genoa, leaving Daniele De Rossi’s side without a league victory after five matches.
