Kylian Mbappe has joined Swiss sportswear company On as the brand makes its first major move into football.
The France captain’s deal ends his long-standing partnership with Nike, which began when he was a teenager.
Announcing the partnership on Friday, On said Mbappe’s signing marked “the beginning of the brand’s journey into the world’s biggest sport”.
Mbappe said he was attracted to the opportunity to help develop new products and shape the brand’s entry into football.
“From the beginning, what drew me to On was the opportunity to build something entirely new together that will help shape tomorrow’s game,” he said.
“I want to bring my experience and perspective into what we create, push what’s possible through innovation, and always stay true to the joy of football.
“We have a shared dream, and this is only the beginning.”
On also announced the appointment of 1998 World Cup winner Thierry Henry as its football director and plans to launch its first football boots next year.
The company did not disclose the value of Mbappe’s contract.
Founded in 2010, On previously focused mainly on running and tennis footwear. Tennis great Roger Federer is among its shareholders and also moved from Nike to the Swiss company towards the end of his playing career.
Mbappe had been with Nike since 2006 and became one of the American sportswear giant’s leading football ambassadors.
The Real Madrid forward, who helped France win the 2018 World Cup, is the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 22 goals.
His move to On follows Spain and Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal’s switch from Nike to Adidas in 2024.
Nike continues to have several leading footballers under contract, including Norway’s Erling Haaland and Brazil’s Vinicius Junior.
