Yamal, speaking to Movistar on Friday, said the rivalry carries a different meaning for academy graduates and admitted he was eager for another meeting with Real Madrid.
“I want to face Real Madrid in El Clásico. I’d really love that,” he said.
The 19-year-old recalled Marcus Rashford’s first Clásico and said the England forward initially appeared not to understand the significance of the fixture.
“I remember I watched Rashford play on his first Clásico and thought to myself that he does NOT yet know what this game means,” Yamal said.
According to him, Rashford later adapted to the intensity of the rivalry and produced a stronger display in the return fixture.
“Then in the return leg, he truly understood what a Clásico means when he scored a goal from a free kick and played with a different intensity.
“When you come from La Masia, from your very first Clásico, you already know what this match means,” he added.
Yamal has also expressed a desire to face Real Madrid in the Champions League, with the two Spanish giants yet to meet in the competition.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are scheduled to meet in La Liga on October 25, 2026.
