The Northern derby played at the Sani Abacha stadium was watched by a large number of spectators as usual.
Yahaya Ibrahim scored the decisive goal in the 6th minute to the cheers of the home fans.
All efforts by the Katsina side to equalise failed as the hosts' defenders were up and doing.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Pillars Technical Adviser, Daniel Ogunmodede, commended his players for ending their winless run with a 1-0 victory over Katsina United in Matchday Nine.
He said the victory was important in restoring the players’ confidence and rewarding the fans for their support.
Ogunmodede acknowledged the pressure on the team, particularly after failing to secure victories in their previous home matches.
“We expected pressure in this game, so I congratulate my players for handling it well.
“The most important thing was to secure the maximum three points and end our winless run. I am happy we achieved that,” he said.
The manager said his players were determined to impress both the technical crew and the fans, adding that the early goal helped the team settle into the game.
He said the players performed well in both attack and defence, noting that their ability to prevent Katsina United from scoring was as
important as finding the net.
“We attacked effectively and scored, then defended well to prevent our opponents from scoring. We kept a clean sheet and secured
all three points,” Ogunmodede said.
He, however, acknowledged that the team still had room for improvement in spite of moving up the league table.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that Pillars is in fourth position on the league table with 15 points from 10 matches.
