Spanish midfielder Alexia Putellas has won the 2026 Women’s Ballon d’Or, claiming the prestigious individual award for the third time in her career.
The 32-year-old received the honour at the 70th Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on Monday, October 26, joining compatriot Aitana Bonmatí as a three-time winner.
Putellas previously won the award in 2021 and 2022 before Bonmatí claimed it in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The latest recognition follows an impressive 2025/26 season in which Putellas captained Barcelona to four trophies, including the UEFA Women’s Champions League, Liga F, the Copa de la Reina and the Spanish Super Cup.
She was also named Player of the Season in the Women’s Champions League after recording seven goals and seven assists during Barcelona’s successful campaign.
Putellas moved to English club London City Lionesses ahead of the 2026/27 season after spending 14 years at Barcelona.
Poland international Ewa Pajor finished second in the voting, while Jamaica forward Khadija Shaw came third.
The victory also extends Spain’s dominance of the women’s award, with Spanish players winning it for six consecutive years.
