Youths and students leaders have insisted that the Judiciary must protect democracy in Nigeria. They maintained that independence of the judiciary must remain sacrosanct, noting that any perception of bias, influence, or compromise risk eroding years of democratic progress.
The National Coordinator Coalition of Youth and Students For Good Governance, Comrade Olalere Benedict, at a press conference in Ibadan, Oyo State, emphasized that as the country anticipates the judgment on the internal crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the moment goes beyond party politics, it is a direct test of judicial integrity, public trust, and democratic stability.
He said the Supreme Court, as the highest judicial authority, carries the burden of finality as Its decisions are not just legal pronouncements; but shape political realities, influence public confidence, and either strengthen or weaken democratic institutions.
The President, National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS, Senate Arm, Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, maintained that democratic institution represents the collective voice of Nigerian Polytechnic students. He reaffirmed the association's firm commitment to justice, equity, constitutional order, and the continuous preservation of democracy in Nigeria.
Oyewunmi stress that as student leaders and future custodians of this nation, students strongly believe that justice delivered with transparency and fairness will strengthen national unity, restores public trust, and protects democratic progress.
