President Bola Tinubu has blamed previous administrations and political opponents for Nigeria’s hunger and poverty, insisting that his government is working to tackle the challenges as he launched his re-election campaign in Kaduna on Saturday.
Addressing supporters at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off rally at Ranchers Bees Stadium, Tinubu accused his opponents of creating the economic difficulties they now criticise his administration over.
“I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” he said.
The President also defended his administration’s record on salary payments, praising APC governors for their performance in their respective states.
“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. They are developing,” he said.
Tinubu thanked Kaduna residents for supporting him in the 2023 presidential election, saying their votes contributed to his emergence as President.
“You gave me joy to remember the victory you gave me to become president. I come again to thank you,” he said.
He appealed to the electorate to renew his mandate in 2027, saying he wanted to sustain his promise of prosperity, continuity, progress and development.
The President also addressed Nigerian children at the rally, expressing his administration’s commitment to the country’s future.
The event at Ranchers Bees Stadium, also known as Kaduna Township Stadium, marked the formal launch of the APC’s presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders and supporters from across the country attended the rally as the ruling party began mobilising support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.
