Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against assuming widespread support in Northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as growing dissatisfaction with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Oseni gave the assessment on Monday during the Morning Show, where he discussed political alignments and voter sentiment ahead of the elections.
He argued that the enthusiastic reception politicians receive during public engagements in the North might not translate into votes, particularly where such displays of support are influenced by financial inducements.
“The North is not happy with this administration,” Oseni said, cautioning the ruling party against interpreting public displays of loyalty as proof of electoral backing.
The broadcaster acknowledged that his assessment could attract criticism over the lack of empirical evidence but maintained that observing public sentiment and political trends was important in understanding the mood of voters.
He also questioned whether the APC could count on the full commitment of governors who defected to the ruling party amid the internal crisis and fragmentation within the Peoples Democratic Party.
Oseni suggested that some of the governors might have joined the APC because of circumstances surrounding their former party rather than a longstanding commitment to the ruling party.
He described the defections as an arrangement shaped by political developments and questioned whether the governors would have switched parties if the PDP had remained united.
The broadcaster said the level of commitment the defectors would demonstrate within the APC could become a significant factor in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
