The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 chairmanship seats and 239 councillorship positions in the Kogi State local government elections held on Saturday.
The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Nda-Eri, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Lokoja on Sunday, declaring APC candidates winners across all 21 local government areas and 239 wards.
Nda-Eri said collation had been completed in all 21 local government areas, covering 3,508 polling units across the state.
He said the APC candidates had met the legal requirements and secured the highest number of valid votes in their respective contests.
The commission said the election was conducted in accordance with the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Law, 2025, and the Electoral Act, 2022.
Nda-Eri described the exercise as peaceful, free, fair and credible, commending political parties, security agencies, election observers, journalists, traditional rulers, civil society organisations and voters for their cooperation.
He said the commission had conducted voter education and stakeholder engagements ahead of the poll, adding that 12 political parties had been cleared to participate and were provided with what he described as a level playing field.
The KOSIEC chairman also disclosed that the commission had not received any petition challenging the electoral process before or during the election.
He said Certificates of Return would be issued to the elected chairmen and councillors on a date to be announced.
Nda-Eri commended Governor Ahmed Ododo for providing logistics and an enabling environment for the election, saying the commission had been allowed to perform its duties without interference.
The commission and independent election observers had earlier expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the poll, citing peaceful voting, security arrangements and what they described as impressive voter turnout.
Nda-Eri said the commission had followed its electoral timetable and remained committed to ensuring that votes cast were counted and reflected in the final results.
