PVC Distribution: INEC Extend Date In Ogun State

Sequel to the series of anomalies leading to protest against the on going distribution of Permanent Voter Cards in Ogun state, the Independent National Electoral Commission has extended the exercise in the state by one day.

Voters who could not get their cards in sagamu area of the state had yesterday protested the hiccups being experience during the three days exercise when Governor Amosun visited the town.

‎Following series of inadequacies that trailed the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards across the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State, the Independent Electoral Commission has extended the date for the exercise by one day.

The exercise, which commenced on Friday is suppose to end today but due to series of complaint of Irregularities against the exercise, the commission has deem it fit to extend the exercise till Monday for those who are yet to get their cards to do so.

It will be recalled that electorates in Sagamu, who had registered for the exercise but could not get their cards yesterday threw caution to the wind and protested the abnormalities being encountered.

The major complain was that those who had registered saw their names on the list pasted at their respective polling units in the state but could not locate their Permanent Voter Cards.

Also Governor Amosun had equally registered his displeasure in the exercise at the state secretariat of the Independent Electoral Commission in Abeokuta, where he demanded for an extention of two day.

Giving reasons behind the extension, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ogun State, Sam Olumekun said it was as as a result of the
hitches observed during the first two days of the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards in Ogun and that the exercise has been extended by one day.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner appealed to the eligible voters in the State to be calm, assuring them that any voter whose name appears in the voter register but could not find his or her card should not panic, as their cards would be provided in due course.

He appealed to those who could not locate their cards not re-register during the Continuous Voter Registration exercise scheduled for 12th - 17th November, 2014 as this would amount to double registration.

The Commission Boss in the state assured the general public that all eligible citizens would be registered and issued valid voter cards before the 2015 election.
