POWA decries rate of child abandonment

POWA decries rate of child abandonment

The continuous breakdown of family values in Nigeria has been identified as reasons for cases of  child abandonment in the society, hence the need for all stakeholders including parents to rise up to the challenge.


The Chairperson of the Police Wives Association of Nigeria, Oyo State Chapter, Oladunni Odude who made the assertion during a visit to the Juvenile Correctional institution and child care unit, Ijokodo in ibadan, decried the attitiude of some parents to child rearing.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that Mrs. Odude charged parents to always be alive to their responsibilities and train their children, especially the females to shun all forms of wayward life.

She added that the association decided to visit the Juvenile home in order to make the children have sense of belonging.

Responding to the gesture, the  Principal Social Welfare Officer, Ibadan and Ibarapa Zonal headquarters, Ibilade Yinusa further implored other well meaning Nigerians to always come to the aid of the home with a total of 160 children.
