The governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, in the Saturday, August 15 governorship election in Osun State, Adebayo Simon Adewale, has withdrawn from the race, and subsequently, stepped down for incumbent Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke. Adewale directed all APM members and his teeming supporters in the state to vote for the incumbent Governor and Candidate of the Accord Party.

The APM Candidate, at a press conference, clarified that the decision to back Adeleke was a "conscious choice to place Osun State’s interest above personal ambition" and that it would allow the governor to consolidate on the progress his government has achieved in the state.

According to him, politics should always be about serving the people, adding that his decision to withdraw from the governorship contest to back the incumbent governor would advance peace, stability, development, and the collective interest of the state.
