The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State has moved Permanent Voters Card (PVC) collection to the area's electoral wards.

Mr Virginius Aniekwe, the Assistant Electoral Officer in INEC made the disclosure in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Nsukka.

Aniekwe said that this had become necessary to make it easier for people in the rural areas to collect their voters cards.

“The PVCs have been sorted out and moved to the 20 electoral wards in the area, where it would be easier for people to collect their cards.

“The purpose is to enable registered voters to collect their PVCs and save them from travelling a long distance to INEC Office in Nsukka town.

“Nobody will now give excuses that he/she has no transport money to collect their cards.

“We will send our staff to the electoral wards daily to ensure that people have easy access to their PVCs,” he said.

When NAN visited Ibegwani Ward, some registered voters were seen collecting their PVCs at the Central School, Ibagwani.

They thanked INEC for bringing the cards closer to the people.

Mr Friday Ugwu and Mrs Jovita Ezema commended INEC, saying that they would have spent about N2,000 each to go to INEC office to collect their cards.

Chief Onyema Idoko, former Chairman of Nsukka Local Government Council, who hails from Ibeagwa-ani ward, commended INEC’s wisdom of sending their staff to the wards.

NAN also visited Nru Ward, where Mr Cyprian Ugwuaku, the President-General of Nru Federated Nsukka Town Union, expressed satisfaction with the distribution of the voter cards.

“I applaud INEC for this beautiful arrangement that will save registered voters the inconveniences and transport fares to go to the INEC Office in Nsukka town,” he said.

NAN reports that INEC fixed Oct. 9 to Oct. 15 for the nationwide collection of newly issued PVCs ahead of the 2027 general elections.
