The Peter Obi Media Office has challenged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to justify its 2023 electoral victory with improvements in Nigerians’ living conditions, citing rising living costs, poverty and insecurity.

The office urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, to focus on the government’s performance rather than continuing to challenge opposition figures over the outcome of the last presidential election.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, the office argued that Nigerians were more concerned about the impact of government policies on their daily lives than political disputes over the 2023 election.

“Winning an election is not an objective in itself,” it said, insisting that electoral victory should translate into better living conditions and effective governance.

The office acknowledged that the courts had affirmed the official outcome of the 2023 presidential election but maintained that the judicial verdict did not exempt the government from public scrutiny.

“Leadership should be judged not by the ability to win or appropriate an election or defend its result in court but by the capacity to transform political authority into concrete outcomes,” the statement said.

It challenged Alake and the APC to explain what the administration had achieved with the mandate secured by Tinubu, particularly in addressing economic hardship and insecurity.

“Where is the relief Nigerians were promised? Where is the economic prosperity? Where are the security, affordability, and renewed hope that responsible leadership should provide?” the office asked.

According to the statement, declining purchasing power and the rising cost of meeting basic needs remain major concerns for households across the country.

It argued that political arguments over electoral victory offered little comfort to citizens struggling to afford essential goods and services.

The office also criticised what it described as the government’s preoccupation with political defence and grand displays, arguing that these had not adequately addressed the difficulties facing ordinary Nigerians.

It said the administration’s performance should be measured by tangible improvements in homes, workplaces, farms and communities rather than celebrations over its electoral success.

The statement urged the APC to demonstrate how its mandate had translated into measurable benefits for Nigerians, adding that holding public office came with a responsibility to deliver results and remain accountable to citizens.

It further accused government supporters of devoting too much attention to discrediting opposition figures instead of addressing the concerns of the electorate.

The office maintained that the administration should prioritise policies that ease economic hardship, improve security and restore public confidence in governance.
