Gunmen have renewed hostilities in Cross River State, killing a farmer, while injuring several others.

The violence may emerge from a fresh violent communal confrontation in the State. The gunmen struck along Ekpenti Farm Road, off Idomi-Ugep Road, Yakurr Local Government Area.

The victim, identified as Omini Iyam Ebri, 56 years, a farmer, was killed in a gunshot in his farm. Ubi Ofem Ubi, sustained gunshot injuries. He was taken to the General Hospital, Ugep, but died later.

The police have deployed operatives to the war zone to de-escalate the violence and restore law and order.
