Enugu Police Command Impound 195 Vehicles
The Enugu State Police Commissioner CP Mamman Giwa led the enforcement of the nationwide ban on unregistered vehicles and vehicles with covered, defaced and unauthorized number plates across the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Command, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement, emphasized the need to check indiscriminate use of unregistered vehicles by criminal elements.
According to the police, a total of 195 vehicles were impounded across the state, with the police commissioner ensuring that the impounded vehicles were detained legally by the command.
The affected owners will be charged to court and prosecuted accordingly, while police officers who extort vehicle owners will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
The Enugu State Police Commissioner, CP Mamman Giwa, reiterated that the ongoing crackdown is not to witch-hunt motorist's, but was directed by the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, that all states police command must strictly enforce the ban and prosecute offenders in line with the extant laws. He cited security risks posed by such vehicles and their frequent use in criminal activities and violation of existing regulations.
