What could have been a major aviation disaster was averted in Benin City, Edo State, when one of the newly acquired Enugu Airline skid off the runway after landing at the Benin Airport.

It was gathered that the aircraft with Registration Number 5N-ENR, had 68 passengers on board apart from the crew members.

A source at the Benin Airport said the aircraft was on an Enugu-Benin-Lagos commercial flight when it overshot the runway and ran off track to surrounding grass space.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, immediately swung into action and all the passengers were evacuated with no casualty recorded.
