The Nigerian Prisons in Ado Ekiti was attacked on Sunday night by yet to be identified gunmen and several inmates escaped.

The Controller of Ado Prisons, Kehinde Fadipe who confirmed the attack while speaking with newsmen, said the men came in their large number with dangerous weapons.

Journalists were barred by the prison officials from entering into the facility located along Afao Ekiti road in Ado Ekiti.

The Prison's controller, who spoke with newsmen at the entry point of the prison, said they were attacked by some gunmen.

Fadipe who revealed that the Prison capacity was two hundred, said he cannot give the number of inmates that are currently at large.

The controller however dismissed claim of insurgent in the attack, adding that the reason would be known soon.

Meanwhile, the Prison officials are waiting for further directive from the Minister of interior, Abba Moro.
