The governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has hailed the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, for his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and the growth of Ekiti State as he marks his 70th birthday.

Oyebanji said Alake’s career as a journalist and public servant had helped shape the country’s democratic journey, particularly during the years of military rule.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor described Alake as “a distinguished son of Ekiti who has made the state proud over the years through sundry contributions to national development”.

Oyebanji said Alake’s advocacy through the media during military rule came “at great risk to his life” and contributed to the restoration of democracy in Nigeria.

He also praised the minister’s role in the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly his efforts to increase non-oil revenue through the solid minerals sector.

According to the governor, Alake had “proved his mettle” as a journalist, communicator and public servant, using his professional platform to promote human rights and democracy.

Oyebanji noted that the minister had served in various capacities as a reporter, editor, media manager and administrator, as well as Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State and Special Adviser on Communication to the President.

“Ekiti will always be proud of the minister for positively projecting the image of the state and contributing to its growth and development,” he said.

The governor wished Alake good health, wisdom and more years of service to Nigeria and humanity.

“On behalf of the government and good people of Ekiti State, I congratulate my dear brother, the Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr Dele Alake, as he turns 70 today,” Oyebanji said.
