Prof. Benedette Okoli, the Enugu State Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, has urged women to mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Peter Mbah in 2027.
Okoli made the call on Sunday while addressing women drawn from 11 political wards in Awgu Council Area of Enugu State in support of All Progressives Congress (APC)candidates in the 2027 general elections.
She said the mobilisation was aimed at educating the women on the achievements of the Mbah administration, APC and the need to support the party’s candidates in the 2027 general elections.
“When people do not have information, they wallow in ignorance. That is why I invited the women today to educate them about the things Gov. Mbah has done, which many people do not know about.
“We have come here to mobilise them for President Tinubu, the governor and all candidates contesting under the APC. We are going to vote APC from top to bottom,” she said.
The commissioner said the governor’s achievements were made possible by the support he received from the Federal Government, stressing the need for continuity in governance.
She expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of women from the 11 wards.
Also speaking, the member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency, Mr Anayo Onwuegbu, appealed to the women to vote for Mbah, Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
Onwuegbu urged the women to reciprocate the governor’s good works with their votes.
He thanked the commissioner for organising the event.
The APC Enugu Women Leader, Mrs Esther Edeh, commended the governor for appointing more women into various positions in his administration.
Edeh pledged that women across the state would vote massively for Tinubu, Mbah and other APC candidates in 2027.
“We will vote for President Tinubu, Mbah and other APC candidates from top to bottom in 2027,” she said.
The Awgu Council Chairman, Mr Uche Okoro, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr Ndubuisi Nwandeigwe, commended Mbah for executing projects in the area, particularly the transformation of the Awgu Game Village, which he said had been abandoned since 1999.
He also appreciated the governor for appointing people from the area into his cabinet, pledging the people’s total support for his re-election.
“Our support for you come 2027 is total and complete, and, if possible, you do not need to campaign in Awgu,” he said.
Responding on behalf of the governor, the Secretary to the
State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, described Mbah as the best governor the state had ever had, based on what he described as empirical evidence.
Onyia said the large turnout of women from the 11 wards demonstrated their support for the governor and their desire for continuity in the state.
He said the people had several reasons to vote Mbah back into office, adding that the government would continue to recognise and work with women as partners in governance.
“We are here to galvanise the women and tell them that we see and hear them.
“We will continue to work with them as partners through this whole process, leading up to the election and the governance of Enugu State,” Onyia said.
