The Justice A.O. Chijioke-led Kogi State/National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal has nullified the election of Dino Melaye, Senator representing Kogi West and has ordered fresh elections.

Melaye’s closest rival, Smart Adeyemi of the APC, had filed a petition before the tribunal challenging the outcome of the election on grounds that the electoral process was marred by widespread irregularities.

Meanwhile, Dino Melaye has reacted to the Tribunal ruling, describing it a ‘total miscarriage of justice’ and vows to appeal the judgment to ensure ‘justice prevails.’

In a statement made available to journalists, the outspoken Senator said the judgment is ‘full of importation of information that are alien to the case.’  

Mr. Melaye urged his supporters to remain calm, assuring that their mandate is safe.

Dino Melaye who until Friday’s ruling is the Senator representing Kogi West also has his sight set on the Kogi State gubernatorial seat.
