The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council has conferred the traditional political title of Kaigama, meaning field marshal, on Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The title was announced by a member of the council, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, during a visit by the delegation to Kebbi State as part of its nationwide consultations with traditional rulers.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Zuru, said the honour was approved by the council’s chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, in recognition of Idris’s party loyalty, leadership and political mobilisation.
The delegation visited the Emir of Gwandu and Chairman of the Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Muhammadu Bashar, to pay homage and seek his prayers ahead of the commencement of campaign activities.
The visitors were received at the Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi by a crowd led by Idris. The reception continued at the emir’s palace, where traders, farmers, traditional dancers and praise singers gathered to welcome them.
The Emirs of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera; Yauri, Dr Zayyanu Abdullahi; and Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Gomo III, were also present.
Speaking during the visit, Yari said the delegation had come to pay homage to the traditional ruler and seek his prayers for guidance ahead of the elections.
The Emir of Gwandu thanked the delegation and urged politicians to conduct peaceful campaigns.
At the Government House in Birnin Kebbi, Yari praised Idris’s leadership, attributing the APC’s political strength in the state to his efforts.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that its performance over the past three years supported calls for another term.
In his response, Idris credited the party’s standing in Kebbi to contributions from prominent leaders and stakeholders, including former governor and Senator Adamu Aliero, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Atiku Bagudu, former governor Sa’idu Nasamu Dakingari and Senator Yahaya Abdullahi.
The governor also attributed the party’s position to development projects executed by his administration, which he said had changed the state’s development trajectory.
Idris expressed confidence ahead of the 2027 elections, saying residents were already looking forward to the polls.
The visit forms part of the APC campaign council’s engagement with traditional institutions as the ruling party prepares for the next general elections.
