The All Progressives Congress in Cross River State has identified major infrastructure projects, including the Bakassi Deep Seaport and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, as key campaign tools for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027.

The party said its grassroots mobilisation would focus on communicating the development prospects of the state and the Federal Government’s economic reforms to voters.

The APC State Chairman, Rt. Hon. Sunny Etta, stated this at a meeting of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Calabar, where coordinators from across the state gathered to strategise for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.

Etta urged the coordinators to move beyond campaign rallies and explain the achievements and ongoing projects of the Tinubu and Otu administrations to residents.

He listed the proposed Gulf of Guinea Commission headquarters in Calabar, the Bakassi Deep Seaport, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, and the state’s oil and maritime resources as major selling points for the party.

The chairman described the Renewed Hope Ambassadors as a critical platform for mobilising support but said electoral success would depend on how effectively the coordinators communicated the governments’ policies and development initiatives.

The meeting was convened by the State Coordinator of Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Soni Abang, and featured local government coordinators and newly appointed women coordinators.

Abang said the organisation was established by Tinubu to promote his administration’s policies and achievements and mobilise support for his re-election, adding that it would also work for Otu’s second-term ambition.

He disclosed that the group had identified nearly 500 registered support groups across the state and was working to integrate them into a unified political structure covering the 18 local government areas, wards and polling units.

“We have close to 500 registered support groups, and our responsibility is to bring them together, coordinate their activities and build a formidable grassroots structure for the 2027 elections,” he said.

Abang warned against voter apathy, urging members to prioritise direct engagement with residents rather than relying exclusively on rallies and motorcades.

“We cannot depend on rallies and convoys alone. We must go into the communities, speak to the people, explain what the governments have done and ask them to support and vote for our candidates,” he said.

The Director-General of the Cross River APC Campaign Council, Senator Stephen Odey, urged coordinators to take responsibility for securing grassroots support and reconnecting with voters who might feel neglected.

The Governor’s Chief of Staff, Chief Emmanuel Ironbar, commended the increasing participation of women in the mobilisation structure, urging support groups to avoid internal rivalry and work towards the common goal of securing electoral support for Tinubu and Otu.

Ironbar also urged the coordinators to publicise the Otu administration’s achievements in healthcare, education and infrastructure, saying public awareness of the government’s performance was crucial to its re-election campaign.

Abang further commended the turnout at the recent APC rally in Calabar, saying the commendation received from the party’s national leadership should encourage members to replicate the mobilisation effort across the state.
