The African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for reportedly creating 453 additional polling units, saying the move was made without public disclosure or meaningful consultation with electoral stakeholders.
The reported increase brings Nigeria’s total number of polling units from 176,846 to 177,299, with all 453 additional units reportedly located in Delta State.
In a statement, the AAC said the development raised concerns about INEC’s transparency, impartiality and commitment to credible elections. It also linked the issue to wider concerns about suspicious voter registration records, saying the commission’s actions risk further undermining public confidence.

The party said elections were a process, not merely an event, and argued that preparations for the 2027 elections could be compromised if decisions affecting the electoral process were made in secrecy. It said INEC could not expect public confidence while withholding information about decisions that could affect electoral outcomes.
The AAC called on INEC to publish the locations, codes, wards, local government areas, creation dates, approvals and demographic justification for the 453 polling units, as well as explain what consultations had taken place.
The party urged Nigerians, political parties and civil society organisations to oppose efforts to undermine democracy, warning against legitimising what it described as a flawed electoral process.
