A former All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mrs Hilmary Aipoh, has called on Nigerians, particularly women, to unite behind President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Aipoh made the call on the sidelines of the symposium organised to commemorate the 2026 International Rural Women’s Day in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Association of Wives of FCT Traditional Rulers (WOFCTTRA) organised the symposium in collaboration with the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat.

She told newsmen that Tinubu’s second term in office would ensure the continuity of impactful grassroots development.

She underscored the massive electoral clout that Nigerian women possess, describing them as the primary drivers of voter turnout who inspire their families to participate actively in elections.

Aipoh noted that women make up over 60 per cent of active voters in the country, demonstrating unwavering loyalty by remaining at polling units from morning until night to safeguard their votes.

“Therefore, Nigerian women should come out en masse during the upcoming polls to re-elect Tinubu, Sen. Philip Aduda to represent FCT in the Senate and the two APC candidates vying for Abuja South and Abuja North Federal Constituencies,” she said.

She highlighted the transformative contributions of rural women to national growth through agriculture, noting that the political and economic mobilisation of women remains central to Nigeria’s socio-economic stability.

She commended the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her agricultural initiatives and grants to support women farmers across FCT area councils.

Stressing agriculture's crucial role in national development, Aipoh noted that women are the backbone of food production and household management.

“Grassroots is very key to the development of this great nation. Women of the grassroots are putting their all to make sure Nigeria becomes a place for everyone to be happy.

“Agriculture is very key to each and every one of us, and FCT women are dedicated farmers.

“The first lady has championed agricultural advocacy so passionately, providing grants to women to develop their farms,” she said.

The former women leader also expressed full confidence in FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, describing his leadership as a “political catalyst” capable of delivering both infrastructural and human development across the capital territory.

“Wike is the field-man now directing affairs in the FCT. When he says something, he does it. With the ongoing infrastructural and human capital development, FCT will continue to excel, she said.

Addressing the institutional support for female empowerment, Aipoh further praised Wike for establishing and supporting the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, describing it as a landmark step toward inclusive governance.

She noted that the creation of the secretariat has given women a genuine sense of belonging and unified grassroots women across all local districts.

“Women are good managers of homes and families. Wike has done so well by creating the secretariat and we thank Tinubu for supporting the minister to give FCT women a voice,” she said
