Stop Taking ASUU For Granted, OOU VC Tells FG

The Vice-Chancellor of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Prof. Ganiu Olatunji Olatunde, has warned that, if Nigeria's standard of tertiary education must improve; the Federal government must stop taking the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for granted.

Olatunde insisted that the Federal government must always engage the ASUU in dialogue and stop treating the union as the enemy.

The professor of Agriculture stated this in an interview with journalists at the sideline of a reception held in honour of Abdul-Azeez Olayiwola Balogun, a Professor Emeritus of Islamic studies at OOU.

The reception was hosted by the former deputy governor of the state, Senator Adegbenga Kaka.

Olatunde, a former Chairman of ASUU, Federal University Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) branch called on the Federal to dialogue with the union to avert the looming strike, saying students cannot afford to experience another break in the academic calendar.

On his part, the former deputy governor of Ogun state Senator Adegbenga Kaka described Balogun as a pious human being that is worthy of emulation by all and sundry.

He stated that, Nigeria's education sector needs more of Balogun to turn the fortunes of the sector around for good.
