Senate Committee on Power visits Ministry of power

Members of the Senate Committee on power on Monday visited the Ministry of Power for their oversight function, especially with the current agony being experienced by Nigerians regarding electricity supply.

Galaxy TV reports that the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe and were received by the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu and other too officials of the Ministry.

In his remark, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Abaribe said the visit of the committee was in line with the provision of the constitution, which empowers the committee to carry out oversight functions.
He commended the Minister for work done so far in the ministry but posited that Nigerians are not happy with the level of power supply in the Country.

Senator Abaribe advised the Ministry to look inward and see how facilities and infrastructure in the country could be utilized for power generation and distribution while efforts are ongoing to explore other alternatives.
Other Senators in their respective remarks emphasized the need for the ministry of up his game and ensure constant power supply across Nigeria.

Responding, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu attributed the problem in the sector accumulated debt owed to gas company, infrastructure deficit, as well as insufficient gas supply.
Adelabu said the generating companies have 13,250 capacity but are generating 5800, which is the highest ever.
The Minister said the country is operating below 6000 and the figure was generated over six years ago adding that, with good demands and transmission infrastructure, things will improve.
