Hausa Traders protest, Vow Not to Return to Shasha

Some Hausa traders at Shasha market on Wednesday protested the loss of innocent lives and destruction of property during the crisis that started last Thursday.

The protesters who were with placards with various inscriptions to register their displeasure on the incident vowed not to return to the market even when opened by the state government.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that the traders made known their intention when a delegation from the National Emergency Management Authority visited the scene of the crisis for an on the spot assessment.

The Assessment team led by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation of the agency, Onimode Bandele moved round some of the affected shops in the markets as well as the abode of the Baale of Shasha market and Seriki Fulani to condole with the on the unfortunate incident.

The delegation later met with traders who lost their fortune to the incident.

Bandele, who delivered the message of President Muhammadu Buhari to the affected traders the President has directed the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to activate the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for immediate response in the provision of humanitarian supports to the affected persons.

He added that the cost of its rehabilitation would be determined stressing that the people of the area should cooperate with the agency for the smooth take-off of the assessment procedures.

The Director of Relief and Rehabilitation also promised that relief materials will soon be deployed to the area to serve as succour for the victims of the unfortunate incident.
