A woman, Hamida Umar, on Tuesday dragged her husband, Muhammad Abdullahi to a Shari’a Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, seeking divorce through Khul’i.
Khul’i is a type of divorce where the woman returns the dowry paid during their marriage in exchange for her freedom.
The complainant said she still lived with her husband, hoping things would get better between them, but he showed no signs of answering the call of the court.
Umar added that she came to court so that their marriage could be dissolved through Khul’i.
“He said he had no time for court sittings, then he handed me this paper stating that he had divorced me”, she said.
She passed the content of the letter to the judge, which reads – ” I, Muhammad Abdullahi, have divorced my wife Hamida once after she went to court praying for a divorce.”
The judge, Malam Mu’awiyah Shehu, went through the letter and confirmed the divorce
