President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the 2026 statutory budget proposal of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, to the House of Representatives for consideration and approval.

The proposal was read during plenary by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, after the lawmakers resumed from over three weeks legislative recess.

The budget size was unannounced by the Speaker.

The President asserted that the budget submission complied with relevant constitutional provisions and its intended to align with the Federal Government’s fiscal and development policies, as well as the key assumptions of the 2026 national appropriation framework.

President Tinubu urged the House to give the budget proposal speedy consideration to facilitate development programmes in the Federal Capital Territory.

Meanwhile, the Speaker informed the House of the passing of his Deputy Chief of Staff, Legislative, Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu, describing him as a devoted member of the parliamentary family whose death has left the House in mourning.

The House later adjourned plenary in honour of Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District, and passed away at a hospital in London on February 19, 2026.

Lawmakers observed a moment of silence before adjourning sitting to the following day.
