The reasons behind the killing have not been made known, but was allegedly attributed to the lingering chieftaincy dispute and their stand against oil thieves in the community.

When contacted, the Bayelsa police spokesperson Asinim Butswat who confirmed the story said the police have stepped up investigation leading to the killings, while also confirming that the traditional ruler was abducted on Sunday by unknown gunmen before discovery of his dead body and that of the CDC Chairman.
