A tanker caught fire under Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, prompting the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to deploy an emergency response team to the scene.
The agency’s spokesperson, Olawale Afolabi, confirmed the incident in a message to journalists, saying the distress call was received at about 4.24pm.
He said LASEMA had dispatched its Tiger response team to the scene to respond to the emergency.
The cause of the fire and whether there were casualties had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.
The incident occurred hours after a separate road crash at Otedola Bridge, inward Berger, in which four passengers reportedly sustained multiple fractures following a collision between a sports utility vehicle and a commercial bus.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said the morning crash occurred near Jubilee Gate during rush hour.
Officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service evacuated the injured passengers to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for treatment.
LASTMA operatives managed traffic while police officers from the Isheri division provided security. The drivers were arrested and handed over to the police for investigation, according to the agency.
Motorists were advised to exercise caution and observe speed limits along the Otedola Bridge axis.
