Nine people have died in a road crash involving a commercial bus and a truck on the Ijebu-Ode/Ore expressway corridor in Ogun State.
The crash occurred around 4:55pm on Monday at the Bethel area during rainfall, with the Federal Road Safety Corps attributing the incident to speeding on a wet and slippery road.
The vehicles involved were a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus, registered as 14B-299DT and belonging to Delta Line, and a white Sino Truck with registration number AAB162XD, owned by Bill Gas Solution Ltd.
The Ogun State FRSC spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the deaths in a statement issued in Abeokuta.
He said FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within two minutes of receiving the report and commenced rescue operations.
The bodies of the victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode, while the damaged vehicles were towed to Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police Motor Traffic Division.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged motorists, especially commercial drivers, to exercise greater caution during rainfall.
He advised motorists to obey speed limits, maintain safe following distances and avoid driving practices that could endanger other road users.
Ogunjobi warned that speeding becomes particularly dangerous on wet roads because reduced tyre grip and visibility can make it harder for drivers to control their vehicles or stop safely.
He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to make road safety a priority.
