The Sokoto State Government has donated 10 Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Nigerian Army to strengthen security along the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway amid threats to construction workers and equipment.

The Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who represented the Minister of Works, David Umahi, handed over the vehicles to the Army at the Headquarters of the 8 Division in Sokoto.

Goronyo said the vehicles would improve troop mobility and response to security incidents along the 1,068-kilometre highway project.

The minister commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the donation, noting that security was essential to the timely completion of the project.

Earlier, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Major-General Bengba Paul Koughna, said the vehicles would support operations along the approximately 440-kilometre section of the corridor covering Sokoto and Kebbi states.

Koughna said troops maintained regular patrols and multiple deployment points along the route, adding that the vehicles would enhance their ability to respond to security threats.

He assured that the vehicles would be deployed to protect construction workers, contractors, equipment and other stakeholders involved in the project.
