Seven people, including three children, have been killed in a multiple-vehicle crash involving eight vehicles at Kumo in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Eleven others sustained injuries in the accident, which occurred around 5.30pm on Thursday at Tashan Magariya Junction along the Gombe-Billiri road.

An incident report by the Federal Road Safety Corps blamed the crash on brake failure, which allegedly caused a DAF trailer travelling from Gombe towards Yola to lose control and collide with two Volkswagen Golf cars and five motorcycles.

The report said 25 people were involved in the crash, with the deceased comprising four adult males, two male children and one female child.

The 11 injured victims included four adult males, three adult females and four female children. Their injuries ranged from compound fractures to lacerations and bruises.

The report did not state the condition of the remaining seven people involved in the accident.

The FRSC said its rescue team received a distress call at 5.32pm and arrived at the scene two minutes later.

The injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Kumo, for medical attention, while 11 people received first aid, according to the report.

The vehicles involved were subsequently handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the police in Kumo for further action.

The identities of the deceased and the current conditions of the injured victims were not immediately available.
