Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has disclosed that the Police, in April 2026, arrested 28 suspected terrorists, 51 suspects for murder and culpable homicide, 62 armed robbery suspects, 85 kidnapping suspects, and 54 suspected cultists.

The IGP, at a meeting with senior police officers in Abuja, reviewed the operational activities of the Force for the month under consideration.

IGP Disu stated that police operations led to the rescue of 189 kidnapped victims across different parts of the country.

He also revealed that 140 assorted firearms were recovered, alongside 1,074 rounds of ammunition of various calibres, while 37 stolen vehicles were successfully recovered during coordinated operations nationwide.

IGP Disu announced the restructuring of the Special Weapons and Tactics units into a new formation known as the Violent Crime Response Unit, designed to improve tactical response while strengthening human rights compliance and intelligence-driven policing.

He directed Commissioners of Police to ensure proper oversight of the unit and to engage communities publicly on its operations.

The IGP ordered a nationwide audit of arms and ammunition in all Police Commands to improve accountability and operational efficiency, while assuring Nigerians of ongoing reforms aimed at restoring public confidence in the Force.
