Ondo state government has banned sales of cow meat in Ikare-Akoko to forestall sales of contaminated meat in the area.

Galaxy news gathered that thunderstorm killed eight cows at Ekan-Ile area of Ikare, in Akoko Northeast local government area of the state but instead of disposing them, owner herders roasted the meat and put them for sales to unsuspecting butchers in Akoko area.

A similar thunderstorm had allegedly killed 32 cows last month at Oke Owa in Ijare, Ifedore local government area of Ondo state.

The environmentalists, who mobilised on Thursday morning to the scene of the incident, seized the cow meat for immediate fumigation.

The health experts, therefore, cautioned the people of Akoko to stay away from cow meat in the next few days to avoid consumption of such traditionally and medically cow meat allegedly killed by a thunderstorm.
