A Land Rover Jeep was completely destroyed by fire after overturning on the Third Mainland Bridge inward Iyana-Oworo, Lagos, on Friday, disrupting traffic before emergency responders cleared the scene.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said no life was lost in the incident, which followed a reported loss of steering control by the driver.
In a statement on Friday, LASEMA said it received a distress call at about 1.06 pm and deployed its Tiger Squad from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa. The team arrived at the scene at about 1.30 pm.
The agency said the vehicle, with registration number EPE-743JM, overturned before catching fire, causing severe traffic congestion along the busy bridge.
Its responders immediately began firefighting operations and successfully prevented the flames from spreading beyond the vehicle.
LASEMA worked with the Lagos State Ambulance Service, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Nigeria Police Force to manage traffic and protect other road users from further incidents.
With support from a private Hiab truck, the burnt vehicle was removed from the carriageway, allowing traffic to flow freely again.
The agency said the recovery operation had been completed and its response team had returned to base.
